Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a Roller Derby skater? Some say strength... Some say speed... Some say agility... But those who have skated professionally will tell you, "it takes true grit". Skating around an oval track seems simple enough. After all, you've been skating at the roller rink since you were six. But, it's a whole different experience when you step onto a banked track. Suddenly it hits you. "Hey! This thing is banked!" Banked a lot steeper than it looks, too. As you let go of the hand rail and let your wheels roll with the force of speed, you'll take a few strides... then OOPS! There you are bouncing on your behind. You ask yourself, "Why am I here?" But you get back up and start rolling again. That's how it starts. Hard. It's hard to keep your balance. It's hard to cross one skate over the other to propel yourself out of the turns. The track seems really hard when you fall, doesn't it? But something tells you to come back for more. If you think you've got enough true grit to skate with a pack of true professionals; if you think you've got enough true grit to skate a jam at thirty miles per hour, and if you got true grit to block hard and take hard blocks, then Roller Derby is looking for you.
